All of us have come across satin one time or the other. The luxurious, lustrous fabric is smooth and slippery to touch and has been a status symbol for decades. From royal bridal gowns to cozy bedsheets, satin finds its way in our lives. So What is satin? Let's find out.
A weave of It can comprise of many combinations of fabrics, producing different qualities of it. The resultant fabric is soft and glossy on the outside and matte on the other side.
When people enquire what is satin? Rarely, they get the right answer. Most of the time, they get tangled up between silk satin, satin, and sateen. But not anymore.
Satin silk is commonly referred to as just silk. It‘s silk manufactured using a satin weave. This is the highest and most expensive quality of satin which is widely used in luxury items like bridal wear, curtains, etc.
To make satin more affordable and accessible to all, manufacturers started mixing more fibers to silk. A most common combination is of natural silk, rayon, nylon, and polyester. Minimum interlacing between the four fabrics gives the shimmery and soft texture to the final product.
People always confuse between satin and sateen. While silk is always a prime raw material in It. Sateen is a completely different material. We make It entirely of cotton. As a result, sateen is more durable and tough and can withstand wear and tear so experts suggest to use it to make beddings, drapery, etc.
